Three world champions returned to their roots on Sunday at the Minor Provincial Championships hosted in Oshawa.

Kyle Hawkins Schulz (center), Jeff Broekema (right) and Jerret Tanner (leftt) all from the Belleville area recently captured the World U20 Championship with their 4-1 win over the Slovak Republic on June 29, 2008. All three boys captured gold for the Belleville Bulls during their minor playing careers at the Peewee, Bantam and Junior Provincials.

The three attended the Peewee AA Semi Finals for the ceremonial face off as the four teams including the champion Penetang Blazers, Belleville Bulls, Beeton Xtreme and Toronto Selects had advanced to the 2009 Canadian Ball Hockey Association U15 National Championship, July 29 thru to August 2 in Edmonton, Alberta. The teams were the final four in the recently completed Peewee AA Championships in Oshawa. Complete game results for the tournament may be found at www.ontarioballhockey.ca.

This tournament joins the U17 and U19 events which is the final scouting session for the CBHA Junior Team Canada (JTC) scouting staff. In compiling the list of potential players for each of the Junior Team Canada’s (U16, U18 & U20) the CBHA scouts attend the larger minor provincial events (OBHA Minor’s and the Western Challenge Cup).
