Downsview 3 on 3 Ball Hockey Tournament Featured

"Build it and they will come!" Downsview Park did just that on Saturday, January 13, 2007 as they constructed sixteen temporary rinks on the park grounds to facilitate the one hundred and two team event in support of Shoot For A Cure.

The one-day winter festival included various activities, such as a silent auction, music from Alisha Naugh and the day was highlighted with the celebrity challenge ball hockey game which had many NHL Alumni participating including Gary Leeman, Bob Probert, Jim Thompson, Mark Napier, Ric Nattress, Bill Derlago, and gold medal Olympians Cheryl Pounder, and Paul Rosen and from the movie Slap Shot goaltender, Denis Larouche. 'Shoot For A Cure', Downsview Park and the Ontario Ball Hockey Association showed how sport, with the support of the local community and corporate sponsorship can help raise funds for spinal research. Congratulations to all of the administrators, officials, coaches, players and fans that participated in the tournament and helped to make the event a resounding success in support of such a worthwhile cause.
