Denis Giacobbi was synonymous with the Ottawa-Carleton Ball Hockey League. A throw back to the 'original six' of 'orange ball' players, he was indeed a powerful force back on the blueline who defined the early 80's style of contact ball hockey.

Denis was a solid stay-at-home defender who not only provided a physical presence for the teams that he toiled for throughout his seventeen year career, but he was also a great passer as well as an accurate marksman from the point on the powerplay.

Denis was a team leader and intense competitor who experienced success early and often in his tenured career as a player. In 1979 he was a member of the Ottawa Globe Trophy that won their league, provincial and later national championship in Winnipeg that year where Denis was selected to the All-Canadian Allstar Team.

In 1986, as a member of the Ottawa Lacroix Sports, Denis captured his second national medal as Ontario claimed a silver ducat in Bridgetown Nova Scotia. His outstanding performance once again garned Denis yet another All-Canadian Allstar Team selection.

Denis continued to display his prowress and abilities as a player in 1993, his third decade of participation, at the Canadian Ball Hockey Association Championships in Ottawa where his Cobras came away with a silver medal in defeat of the Femview Rangers. Denis would ironically join his traditional rival, the Rangers, as an associated player at the 1994 National Championships (St. John's, Newfoundland) where he played an integral role in their inaugural three consecutive CBHA gold medal.

It was a fitting end to a storied career for an Denis Giacobbi who not only truly loved the game that he played, but was the consumate leader, team player and professional both on and off the floor who is unquestionably one of the premier practitioners in 'Orange Ball' history who has earned his rightful place in the OBHA Players Hall of Fame.
