Highschool Provincial Championship

The event was hosted in the City of Mississauga, May 7 and 8, and was indeed a showcase for all the competing players and teams and the host the Ontario Ball Hockey Association as teams from across the province competed hard as the OBHA Crowned Highschool Champions at their respective division.

And to the victors go the spoils!

HS ChampionsThe presentation of the championship trophy, signature wearables has become synonymous with OBHA supremacy.  It is an accomplishment and one of the most sought after collection of trinkets in sports today.  The experience and bragging rights is the goal of most teams at the highschool level of play in the province.

It was no doubt nothing less than a resounding experience for the boys and girls advancing to the championship finals as the teams all played good team defence, scored timely goals en route to the boys and girls ‘orange ball’ championships for highschool athletics.

In the Girls tournament, Michael Power/St. Joseph’s captured the title with a 2-0 victory over Penetanguishene in a defensive battle where the goalies were indeed the players of the game for both teams.

The Boy’s ‘A’ final Holy Cross played Riverdale.  This was a hard fought defensive battle as Holy Cross would score midway through the first period until Riverdale would tie up the game on a late power play goal.  The teams would exchange chances and with a few minutes left in the game Holy Cross would get the insurance marker to win the championship 3-2.

In Boy’s ‘B’ there was very little seperating the teams and after the hard fought preliminary round games the Final Four in each division had been determined and the tournament was open for any team to win.  However, once the dust had settled, it was Marc Garneau winning 3-2 over Lincoln Alexander.
