2016 Simcoe County Girls Highschool Ball Hockey Tournament

Well there is no secret about high school ball hockey in the neighboring communities of Midland and Penetanguishene and it’s surrounding area.  It’s growing and its here to stay.  The Ontario Ball Hockey Association’s hosted the inaugural Simcoe County High School Ball Hockey Tournament for eighteen boys and girls teams and they competed hard as the OBHA Crowned Highschool Champions!

Although the event was inaugural tournament for Simcoe County, the OBHA has been hosting the Highschool Championships for over fifteen years so the teams were aware of what it was to take to win.

The Simcoe County tournament had the addition of some exciting new teams which can now celebrate all the champions for a year that has seen an increased level of participation in the tournament and there are new champs in both boys and girls Ontario Highschool Ball Hockey.

The presentation of the championship trophy, and wearables has become synonymous with OBHA supremacy.  It is an accomplishment and one of the most sought after collection of trinkets in sports today.  The experience and bragging rights is the goal of most teams at the highschool level of play in the province.

After the hard fought preliminary round games the tournament was open for any team to win the championship.

Girls BB Championship - Elmvale versus Penetang

Any coach will tell you to never underestimate a wild card team and I guess that is why they play the games.  Elmvale advance ed earlier in the day with a win over Midland and carried that momentum into the final over Penetang onto a 2-0 victory.

Girls A Championship - Barrie North versus Le Caron

The Green and Gold wave would score early and often against the gritty girls from Le Caron en route to a 4-2 win.

Girls AA Championship – St. Theresa’s versus Michael Power

In the girls championship the St. Theresa`s team was the strongest in the round robin not allowing a goal which carried on throughout the final as the team would win the championship 5-0.

Congratulations to all of the tournament administrators, officials, the teams and their coaches and players along with the fans and parents that joined us in attendance the event once again made the inaugural Simcoe County Highschool Tournament event a huge success.
