Women’s B Pre Season Tournament

The Stampede Return to Championship Form

The Oshawa Stampede have been with the OBHA for over 35 years and are again champions.

Although, the past few years have been difficult due to graduation and retirement of some players the team began to assert itself again in 2016 at the Provincial Championships claiming silver.  After last season, the team in blue was readying themselves for the 2017 summer campaign and they have again claimed the Pre Season title and showed the 2017 Provincial Tournament will again have to go through Oshawa, host for the 2017 Women’s Championship as the host team is ready to compete.

This team like most championship teams is built from the net out and while most rosters have a few older players, the strength of this team is a group of solid youngsters both on defence and up front and they can play in any situation and with tremendous speed.

The most important factor in the success of any team is ensuring that the players work together towards one common goal, that responsibility falls on the shoulders of the coaching staff who continues to stress the process and team concept and everyone played their role.

There will always be doubters in the ball hockey community, but one must remember that you have to be good and lucky to get opportunities in this game.  The Oshawa Stampede earned their championship and capitalized on their chances as the club sends three solid lines over the boards every game and their work ethic is what sets this team apart from others.

Only time will tell how many championships this team will attain, but one thing is for sure, the Oshawa Stampede are back!

The Stampede stepped onto the floor in their quest for the women’s premier ‘orange ball’ prize in Ontario.  The Stampede would capture the championship with a 2-0 victory over the Midland Battalion.  In semi-final action, it was the Stampede beat the Vaughan Mustangs 2-1 while the Midland Battalion squeaked out a 3-2 victory over the Mississauga Selects.

Congratulations to all the women programs for their continued growth and development in all divisions of play and for their participation in the 2017 Pre Season Tournament and we look forward to the biggest Provincial Championship in Oshawa this August
