Ontario Panthers Win World Outdoor Championship

The Ontario Ball Hockey Association (OBHA) Women’s division was well represented from various leagues as the Ontario Panthers. For many players it was the first time they had played outdoors.  The rink size and subtle differences in the tournament with five points/game, dek flooring, weather, blue-line flooring etc. would take the team some time to get used to.

The women’s division of play features a blend of young up and coming teams, and older players who still enjoy playing competitive ball hockey.  For many players, it is their first taste of a tournament that provides them the opportunity and to meet new people while playing a game that they continue to enjoy.

The weather would play a big role throughout the weekend as the sun beamed down on the rink and forced many stoppages in the Championship.

It was no doubt nothing less than a resounding experience for their opposition as the Panthers stepped onto the floor in their quest for the Women’s ‘A’ Championship.  The ladies created more than slight electrical impulse as many spectators would move over to the rink they played on as they were a perfect 5-0-0 while scoring 19 goals and allowing 3 against as they captured the 2017 Championship.

The Panthers were led by fine goaltending, a stellar defence core and tenacious forwards, game results below:

Game #1 versus Norstar – 3-2

Game #2 versus Rookie Blues – 7-0

Game #3 versus Warriors 4-0

Game #4 versus Steel City Bombers (Semi Final) 3-0

Game #5 versus Donaleighs (Championship) 2-1
