Women’s ‘A’ Pre Season Showcase Tournament 2019

Women’s ‘A’ Pre Season Showcase Tournament

This past weekend, ball hockey teams gathered in Mississauga for the OBHA Pre Season Showcase Tournament and what a SHOW the ladies put on!

The ‘A’ division had many players who have played in the NCAA, CIS, CWHL & NWHL in what was incredible action throughout the tournament.

After the round robin play, we had the London Redliners finished first followed by the Simcoe County Storm, Durham Selects and Midland Battalion setting up the semi finals.  Both semi finals were rematches of the final preliminary round games on Saturday night.

First up was the Redliners vs Battalion and the Midland team would score two goals in the first period.  The London team would score early in the second period and would press for the equalizer for the last ten minutes of the game and would come up short losing 2-1.

The second game was close checking until late in the first where the Selects from Durham scored to take a 1-0 lead into the second period.   The second period saw both teams exchange chances only to be thwarted by the goaltenders.   The Selects would score their second goal off a fortunate bounce off the back boards to a forward coming in off the wing and that would end the game 2-0 for the Durham team.

The final was set with the traditional offence vs defence and it would be the Midland Battalion tying the game late in the second period and winning in double overtime on a two on one break and 3-2 victory.

Congratulations to all the women programs for their continued growth and development in all divisions of play and for their participation in the 2019 Pre Season Showcase Tournament and we look forward to the biggest Provincial Championship in Oshawa this August
