The Assassins had a game plan to out-work and out hustle their opposition and that is what they did from the first drop of the ball and by scoring first it which would permit them to play a more defensive style against the run and gun Pylons. They say big time players show up in BIG games and Championship Sunday was about Mike Sherman who would lead the Assassins in the semi final with a hat trick and a goal and two assists in the Championship Final. Jared Boersma, Mike Murray, Rob Vanwynsberghe and Mike Findlay would provide the other goals and Trevor Van Dyk would shut the door on the vaunted Pylons offence. Frankie Giustini the Tournament’s Top Scorer would add a goal and an assist in the final, but his line of Matt Martello and Adam Bevilaqua would not be able to muster offence on this afternoon. The game would go back and forth as the Pylons would edge close with a goal early in the second period, but the game was put away as the Assassins would score twice in thirty seconds with six minutes to play. Special teams would not prove to play a large role in this game as both teams had two opportunities each and the penalty killing was tremendous for both teams.
The victory adds to the Assassins list of championships over the past twelve months having captured the 2011 Eastern Regional Qualifier and 2011 Men’s C Provincial Championship Click here for game by game results |
